SPC Strømstad imparts knowledge on how to extend the durability of steel and concrete structures. Here we met other professionals among the exhibitors and speakers to gain new profitable knowledge about this very important and current topic.

The right choice of system, good maintenance and necessary rehabilitation pays off and saves large amounts of new acquisitions and new construction. The savings can vary from 80 to 50 per cent. In addition, there are drastically reduced CO2 emissions. Calculations show that emissions can be reduced by up to 80 per cent! This shows how environmentally friendly laser technology is also for the rehabilitation of steel and concrete.

Participation at the world’s largest fair for laser technology, World of Photonics

This week our employees participated in the world’s largest fair for laser technology. This time the fair was in beautiful Munich, Germany. If we are to continue to be leaders in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Great Britain with quality lasers from the Czech Narran, it is important to be part of a European professional environment and to be up to date with  innovation and development.

This year’s focus area was laser systems—optimized production results through laser manufacturing. 

Laser technology is the manufacturing method of the future.

Laser systems in manufacturing enable increased precision at faster production rates through more efficient processes while using less materials and resources.

No other production method can achieve the precision, speed and efficiency that laser-based methods can. Laser applications already facilitate groundbreaking modern production processes and have the potential to evolve into a universal tool. Only sophisticated laser systems can fulfil the increasingly demanding quality standards and performance specifications of today and tomorrow as they are already being used in the automotive and aerospace sector.

We were also able to present the new product lines, we look forward to showing our customers that Narran has once again focused on top quality and product design. Laser cleaning of industrial moulds

Laser mould cleaning covers a wide range of applications including press moulds, tyre moulds, baking moulds, injection moulds and more.

In addition, the laser solution enables mold cleaning without the need to disassemble and move the mold. Under certain circumstances, our cleaning systems can even perform work at the mold’s operating temperatures, so there is no disassembly/reassembly or cooling/warming period required after cleaning is complete – minimizing the time lost in mold shutdown.

How laser mould cleaning works

Laser cleaning (laser ablation) – uses thousands of laser pulses per second to absorb impurities and remove them (vaporization) from the substrate without damaging the base material. With no additional waste and little or no risk when used properly, laser systems are ideal for cleaning various types of molds. Laser cleaning has consistent quality and operating life of up to hundreds of thousands of cleaning hours – making it a cost-effective solution for cleaning metals and non-metals.

Advantages of laser mould cleaning

Laser mould cleaning has several advantages. The most common include:

Laser cleaning of composite moulds

Laser cleaning technology is particularly effective in cleaning large moulds/tools used for the production of carbon fibre/glass reinforced plastic composite CFRP/GRP. Current research shows that moulds made of nickel, steel, aluminium and high-strength steel can be cleaned efficiently by laser without damaging the base material.

The method is currently being promoted as the most cost-effective mould cleaning option in the aerospace industry. Compared to, for example, ice pellet blasting, laser cleaning is significantly easier to automate, very quiet and up to 15 times faster. In addition, the laser method takes place without the need to clean process and abrasive residues.

Glass moulds have very specific cleaning requirements. The most important problems in cleaning moulds include:

Laser cleaning of invar

Moulds made from INVAR, nickel, steel, aluminium and high-strength steel can be effectively laser cleaned without damaging the base material.

Our systems are not only efficient, but this technology is also the most cost-effective and one of the fastest alternatives for mold cleaning in the aerospace industry.

Cleaning of injection moulds

Laser mould cleaning is an excellent way to clean and sterilise moulds as it allows you to clean moulds at source – without the need to dismantle parts, waste time in transit and risk damage. In addition, if we have a large enough opening, cleaning can be carried out at operating temperatures, which means that no cooling time is required, reducing the amount of machine downtime required.

The solution can be either manual or automated – whichever works best depends on your operational needs.

Laser cleaning of tyre moulds

Tyre moulds are an important part of the car manufacturing process. However, after a few days of use, impurities can start to build up on the moulds. This not only destroys the tire’s finish, but can slow down the manufacturing process. Laser cleaning helps to remove dirt without damaging the molds’ substrate, so you can streamline tire production while extending the life of your product. Laser cleaning solutions range from manual to automated options:

Laser cleaning of PVD tools

PVD (Plasma Vapor Deposition) coating applications are becoming increasingly important in modern surface treatment technology. During the process, however, the applied coating not only adheres to the target surface, but also collects on surrounding materials, including the tools and fixtures used to hold the parts in the reaction chamber.

Over time, excess PVD coating materials lead to undesirable effects such as reduced tolerance of workpieces with poor chamber sealing, resulting in increased moisture and increased heating time.

New generation of process cleaning laser heads

We started integrating a new generation of laser cleaning process heads into our newly manufactured cleaning systems, these are designed to make laser cleaning even more efficient, easier and safer. Many major and minor modifications have been added to the advantages of our process heads.

Our new laser cleaning process heads have been designed with user-friendliness in mind. They are now almost 50% lighter, more practical and more ergonomic, making them comfortable to use even over extended periods of time. In addition, the process head is now equipped with a display for setting all parameters during cleaning instead of the previous manual setting, which makes it much easier to use. Changing the laser cover glass is now significantly easier thanks to the new mechanism, while the new solution also provides greater protection against mechanical damage or contamination of the optics cover glass.
